Widdicomb Chest, Choice of Lacquer Finish

A beautiful three ( 3 ) drawer chest by Widdicomb, circa 1940s. This unusual piece is highlighted by the seldom found Tulip style hardware coveted by Widdicomb enthusiasts. To be restored in Client choice of lacquer color. Hardware to be re-plated in choice of Nickel, Brass or Silver Leaf ( original ) finish. Excellent Restored Condition. Retains the Maker mark.

This piece is part of The Widdicomb Modern Originals Flexi-Unit series (initially known as the Horizontal Vertical Sectional Modern series), a series that was made by Widdicomb but not designed by T.H. Robsjohn Gibbings. It was conceived by C.G. Kimerly, a freelance designer from Jackson, Michigan, who sold the plans to Widdicomb in the Fall of 1940. The line debuted in March 1941 at Marshall Fields in Chicago, Illinois. It was in production for nearly a full decade, 1941 to 1950.
