A stunning rare set of eight (8) dining chairs from the custom order limited production Merbau collection designed by the esteemed John Hutton (1947-2006) for Donghia, circa 1995. The set consists of two (2) Arm and six (6) side chairs. Examples from this particular low production series are nearly impossible to find for sale. Mr. Hutton was the firm design director from 1978-1998 and was responsible for many of the now iconic Donghia designs produced during that period. While Hutton’s talent was always recognized within design and architectural circles, this influential modern designer’s work is finally becoming more commonly recognized and appreciated by the mainstream. Stout heavy rattan construction with seat and back veneered in heavy rush style rattan. Design, material selection and craftsmanship that is beyond incredible. Stout, sturdy, comfortable and built for heavy routine use. Breathtaking organic jewelry designed to anchor an important dining room. EXCELLENT RESTORED CONDITION. Professionally cleaned and re-lacquered; the rattan has aged to absolute perfection. All leather accents and rush wicker veneer is intact and complete. Host chairs measure: 36 inches high, 22 inches wide, 21 inches deep, 18 inch seat height. Measurements listed are per the side chairs. Retains the maker mark.
