Sublime Vintage Rush Cane Wicker Rattan Sofa by John Hutton for Donghia- Pair Available
$28,500
This piece is owned and offered directly for sale by Tom Robinson Modern.
A stunning sofa from the limited production Merbau Collection designed by John Hutton (1947-2006) for Donghia, circa 1995. There is a match pair of these sofas available. While all Donghia furniture collections were low production, examples from this particular series are nearly impossible to find for sale. Mr. Hutton was the firm design director from 1978-1998 and was responsible for many of the now iconic Donghia designs produced during that period. While Hutton’s talent was always recognized and respected within design and architectural circles, this influential modern designer’s work is finally becoming more commonly appreciated by the mainstream. Stout mahogany frame construction veneered in Rush style cane. Mahogany accents finished in black lacquer. Exceptional quality and craftsmanship that no longer exists – built like a battleship. Exquisite textural jewelry intended to create and anchor an unforgettable space. EXCELLENT RESTORED CONDITION. The sofa has been professionally cleaned and re-lacquered; aged to absolute perfection. All cane veneer is intact and complete. The arm height is 24.5 inches. Matching loungers available in a separate listing. Retains the Maker mark. Expert custom upholstery service is available.
