About

This magnificent unique set of dining chairs is shipped as professionally photographed and described in the listing narrative: Meticulously professionally restored, newly upholstered and completely installation ready. Expert custom upholstery service is available.

A fabulous set of eight (8) arm dining chairs from the limited production Block Island collection created by John Hutton (1947-2006) for Donghia, circa 1995. This design is Hutton’s graphic, highly textural interpretation of the work of Jean-Michel Frank. Examples from this particular series are nearly impossible to find for sale. Mr. Hutton was the firm design director from 1978-1998 and was responsible for many of the now iconic Donghia designs produced during that period. While Hutton’s talent was always recognized within design and architectural circles, this influential modern designer’s work is finally becoming more commonly appreciated by the mainstream. Stout mahogany frame construction veneered in block patterned cane, executed to look like Rush style wicker. The custom glaze finish has aged to absolute perfection. Incredibly crafted pieces built for heavy regular use – built like a battleship. Important chairs intended to anchor a serious dining room. The arm height is 26 inches.

Excellent restored condition. The chairs have been professionally cleaned and re-lacquered. All veneer is intact and complete. New expert custom upholstery in a neutral textured Larsen fabric. Expert custom upholstery service is available.
