Magnificent Set of 8 Wicker Cane Block Island Dining Chairs by John Hutton for Donghia, circa 1995
$59,500
A fabulous set of eight (8) dining chairs from the limited production Block Island collection designed by John Hutton (1947-2006) for Donghia, circa 1995. Examples from this particular series are nearly impossible to find for sale. Mr. Hutton was the firm design director from 1978-1998 and was responsible for many of the now iconic Donghia designs produced during that period. While Hutton’s talent was always recognized within design and architectural circles, this influential modern designer’s work is finally becoming more commonly appreciated by the mainstream. Stout mahogany frame construction veneered in block patterned cane, executed to look like Rush style wicker. The custom Driftwood glaze finish has aged to absolute perfection. Incredibly crafted pieces built for heavy regular use – built like a battleship. The arm height is 26 inches. The set is shipped completely installation ready. Excellent Restored Condition. The chairs have been professionally cleaned and re-lacquered. All veneer is intact and complete. Expert custom upholstery in a neutral textured Larsen fabric.
