An exceptional bronze statute by Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887). The piece is inscribed “Poitevin” on the base. This gentleman served as a fabulous focal point for the main garden of one the most storied residential estates in Atlanta. He resided there, completely undisturbed, for nearly 60 years. The natural elements have mellowed the piece to perfection. Signed A. Carrier at the base. The signature style dates this example to before 1868.
Distressed Wear consistent with age and use.
